Alesi wins Double in Exciting DTM
Battle
Former Formula 1 ace Jean Alesi took his first and second ever DTM victories at
Donington Park, UK, on Sunday 19th May. In the first race, the shorter
qualifier, his AMG Mercedes was pursued relentlessly by the Abt-Audi of Martin
Tomczyk, Alesi using all his skill and experience to keep the hard charging
young German behind him.
In the feature race Alesi's main rival was Mercedes
team mate, and reigning champion Bernd Schneider, until the latter was forced
to take a stop/go penalty for speeding during the mandatory pit stop. In the
end Alesi made it look easy, winning by over 12 seconds after a series of
misfortunes befell his closest rivals.
The supporting European GT race was won by Cor Euser in his Marcos
Mantara.
