Hewland uses Wire Erosion machinery for both general and more specialised machining operations, where traditional milling, hobbing and cutting machinery is unable to produce the required forms (either in time, or at all).
Utilising a computer controlled system, a wire strand is fed pulses of electricity and where in close contact to a metal, gradually removes material. Moveable wire feeds enable both the angle and trajectory of the wire to be finely honed, ideal for producing incredibly complex shapes and forms.
The exceptional accuracy of this process allows tight customer tolerances to be met, while providing a much improved surface finish, reducing the need for additional finishing processes and costs. Importantly, combining computer controlled assembly and tight tolerances, components are not only of high quality and accurate, but easily repeated; ensuring batch conformity.
