In recent years, Hewland has once again firmly established itself as the market leader in GT racing transmissions.
Although historically perhaps best known for our exceptional achievements in single-seater racing, Hewland has long been associated with the grid-leaders in GT and Sportscars. Retracing the heritage of legendary racecars such as the Lola T70, McLaren M6A, Brabham BT5/8 and Chevron B8, it is clear that Hewland’s success in GT formulae is second to none, and this providence continues today.
International GT racing has evolved considerably in recent years, particularly with the enormous success of the GT2, GT3, and GT4 categories. Hewland gearboxes have had unprecedented success in these classes, having been adopted by a considerable number of high-profile manufacturer vehicles.
It is, perhaps, in GT3 that Hewland’s market dominance shows most prominently. As well as the supply to the Michelotto Ferrari 458, our units are behind championship and race winning machines such as the Callaway Corvette Z06R, Mercedes SLS, Nismo GTR, Ginetta G55, Praga R4S, and Mosler MT900.
In GT4, Hewland is proud to support the campaign of the Jota MX5 GT4. In GT2 and GTE, Hewland gearboxes continue to be adopted by Michelotto, with use in the latest developments of the Ferrari 458, claiming GTE-pro class victory at Le Mans in 2014.
Further Le Mans 24 Hours success with Starworks in 2012 and Srakka Racing in 2010, both competing in HPD LMP2 prototypes, have combined with Championship successes in American Le Mans, and the FIA World Endurance Championships to ensure Hewland remains the supplier of choice for the world’s most successful sports car racing teams.
Recently, the TLS has been used to great success within the BR Engineering BR01, providing an instantly reliable package that performed faultlessly at Le Mans 24H in 2015 with little testing, and supporting the team in its drive towards multiple podium finishes within the ELMS series.
