At the core of Hewland is the design department in which we operate rapidly and fastidiously, a product of our motorsport heritage.

We take a client-brief and apply our skills, knowledge and proven technology to generate the best possible solution. At Hewland we offer a genuine start to finish in-house service where we design, manufacture, assemble, test and then support the client in the field. Typical time from design brief to prototype is under 5 months for a bespoke transmission system.

We are experienced not just in new motorsport transmissions for internal combustion or electric propulsion, but also for a diverse wave of specialist vehicles for land speed records, arctic exploration, land / air travel, cargo delivery and revolutionary taxis. We look forward to the next challenge put to us and will apply the same processes of CAD design, Finite Element Analysis, gear simulation software and sheer innovation to all projects.

Case Study: Venturi LSR

The Venturi VBB-3 Electric Land Speed Record (LSR) car is the fastest, most powerful electric car today. Also known as The Buckeye Bullet, it is one of a series of student-built, alternative-fuel race cars created by Ohio State University students led by Dr. Giorgio Rizzoni at the Center for Automotive Research.
