Supercar Transmissions

Bred on the track, refined for the road

Luxury, high-performance sports cars deliver performance on the road that can rival competition and track-derived vehicles but with greater refinement. Producing a transmission that can work with enormously powerful engines and provide the option of semi or fully automatic operation is a big challenge but one that Hewland is able to meet.

Hewland is able to take design elements from its racing gearboxes and adapt them to high performance automotive designs. Gear noise can be reduced with different gear types and profiles. Full synchromesh can be implemented to aid manual shifting if required.

Three options are available:

  • Hewland can look at adapting one of its racecar-derived semi-automatic gearboxes for the application. While this will deliver exceptional performance, the gear-noise may detract from the overall refinement the project requires.
  • Hewland can consult on adapting an OEM transmission design to deliver higher levels of performance
  • Hewland can design a bespoke transmission to requirement

Once the design approach is decided, Hewland can help with prototype manufacturing through to volume production.
